Live Painting at Dragonfly in Hollywood

I've never painted live before, never mind at a nightclub, but I'm glad I tried it... The DJ was definitely on last night...the music was perfect for painting...kind of techno/dance, but mixed really well, and I was really into it--the beats were catchy but at the same time mellow. A pomegranite margarita added to that, as well as a really great crowd, and my very talented painter friend Sarah who was painting next to me (photo on left), made the night an unforgettable experience. Club organizer Petey says they've never had anyone paint a life-size doll at their events before, so I was the first! :) I'll be at their Art Walk on November 23rd...it'll be a great way to celebrate my birthday!

Happy Birthday, Hello Kitty

Really? Hello Kitty is 35? Wow. Here's to youthful looks and good genes. Viva la Kitty! If you haven't been to the Hello Kitty exhibit in Culver City yet, it is definitely worth seeing! Love Hello Kitty. They need to make a Hello Kitty amusement park in L.A. The exhibit is as close as you get to a Hello Kitty theme park.

Street-smart and Fancy-free

Strutting their stuff, these dolls are street-smart and a mix of hip-hop, punk, and harajuku styles all in one.

Elle in Candyland

Based on Harajuku fashion, this doll is both pretty and punk. From the cherry barrette in her hair to her striped legwarmers, she is sweet and somewhat retro looking at the same time. I imagined her floating in a world of giant lollipops.

Two of a Kind

Maddie shows off her skillz. First as a backpack, then as a balancing act. She even showed me how to make the doll I gave her into a puppet, putting her hand up the back of her doll's dress and moving the head. Brilliant! Ingenuity also runs in the family.
